The threat was a message that said, “Don’t come to school Dec. 16 2021. School shooting.”

In the letter, High School Principal Dr. Andy Gustafson reassured parents that the district is taking the threat very seriously and students are safe. “A thorough investigation is being conducted in cooperation with law enforcement,” wrote Gustfson. “We are taking steps to identify the individual who is responsible. Kearney School District has rigorous policies and procedures in place to address these types of situations.”

Gustafson advised parents that the school is increasing security measures, and any updates or changes will be communicated as soon as possible. The school district reported the incident to police who are investigating.
