KPGZ Chief Meteorologist Pete Chaston says colder air is moving in to our area this weekend and will remain through the middle of next week. Temperatures will remain well below freezing through the next several days, and very cold wind chills are expected. Wind chill readings could drop as low as 10 to 20 below zero.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central, north central, northeast, northwest and west central Missouri beginning at midnight tonight. The advisory is set to expire at noon on Friday, February 12. This wind chill advisory could likely be extended or reactivated this weekend as meteorologists are expecting temperatures to drop even further by Sunday.

More cold air arrives later tonight, which will drop wind chill values to around 10 to 20 below zero going into early Friday morning. These overnight and morning wind chills will only get colder going into Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, perhaps going as low as 20 to 30 degrees below zero.

Wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. Prolonged periods of cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills will remain possible for the weekend and into early next week.

Wind chills affect people as well as pets, so please remember to limit exposure to children and animals.
