District High School Basketball Brackets Released

The Kearney Bulldogs boys and girls basketball regular seasons ended abruptly this year due to COVID-19 exposure. However, both teams are preparing for district tournament play, which begins the first week in March.

The boys’ regular season ended after the 61-56 conference loss to Grandview on February 10. They will miss the last four games against Smithville, Winnetonka, Oak Grove and Raytown South. The boys finished the regular season with an overall record of 11-8 and 4-5 in conference standings.

The Kearney girls’ final regular season game was in the North Kansas City Tournament on February 3. They will miss the last three regular season games against Winnetonka, Ruskin and Raytown South. The girls finished their regular season with a record of 7-12 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

District tournament play begins the first week of March with the Bulldog girls hosting the Platte County Pirates on Monday, March 1. Platte County currently holds a season record of 9-8. The girls won both games they played against the Pirates this season. The girls tournament bracket can be found here.

On Tuesday, March 2, the boys take the home court to face off against the 15-7, Lafayette High School Fighting Irish. The Bulldog boys beat Lafayette 54-50 when they met on January 14. The boys tournament bracket can be found here.

Both girls and boys tournament games begin at 6:00 p.m. District tournament concludes on March 3 and 4 as teams advance to state semi-final play.
