KSD Names New Communications Director
/The Kearney School District announced it has hired Ray Weikal to fill the vacant Director of Communications and Community Relations position. Weikal has worked in public relations since 2011.
In a press release the school district stated that, “Weikal will help shape the narrative about KSD, align communications and community relations to the district’s strategic plan, and provide pertinent counsel for Superintendent Matt Miller and other district leaders.”
“We’re excited to bring Mr. Weikal on-board as part of our executive leadership team at Kearney School District,” Dr. Miller said. “He brings the kind of high-quality experience, focus on excellence and commitment to public education that matches perfectly with our vision, mission and values.”
Weikal began working in public relations in 2011 with the International Association of Administrative Professionals. In 2014 he accepted a position on the communications and community engagement team at Kansas City Public Schools where he is currently the Public Relations Manager.
Before his career in public relations, Weikal started as a newspaper reporter and editor. He worked for the Iowa City Press-Citizen, the Ottumwa Courier and the Kalona News. In 2007 he came to Kansas City and began working for the Sun Tribune, Sun Gazette, Liberty Tribune and Kearney Courier.
