Man Attempts Phone Scam as Kearney Police Officer

The Kearney Police Department is one of the latest agencies that has received complaints about a male attempting to scam people by calling them and identifying himself as a police officer.

According to the police department, the caller is manipulating his phone number to appear as if he is calling from the police department’s administrative line. The person is identifying himself as either a detective or officer with the Kearney Police Department.

The man has made allegations and threats to the people who answer the phone calls. 

The police department wants to remind residents that officers will always identify themselves, and be able to explain their reasoning for the contact. If a call sounds suspicious, the police department advises people to hang up and call their 24/7 dispatch line at 816-407-3700 to verify or report the call.
