Bulldog Wrestlers Take Down Smithville

The Kearney Wrestling teams hosted cross town rival Smithville with the girls taking a 54-30 win. Bailey Martin, McKaely Routh and Elise Arellano had wins by falls. In JV, Rhys Neale and Xavier Brungradt came away with falls. The girls remain unbeaten in the GKC Suburban Blue Division.

Post game congratulations following boys’ and girls’ wrestling team wins over Smithville.

Varsity boys Ryder Shelton, Daryn Langford and Jak Gist all won by falls. Eli Ashcroft won with a major decision which gave Kearney a 46-29 win.

Head Coach Jake Hill was pleased with the victory. “The biggest take away from the night was our Senior captains showed how to compete when faced with adversity. Eli and Daryn took all momentum away from Smithville and got us rolling in the right direction. Smithville is a tough opponent. We learn a lot about ourselves every time we wrestle them.”

The Varsity Boys are undefeated in conference at 5-0. They are 12-2 overall in the dual season as they head to the Winnetonka Invitational this Friday and Saturday, January 21-22.

Tuesday, January 25th is senior night. Come see some exciting wrestling action and support these Bulldog athletes. They deserve it.
