Kearney Resident and Veteran Files as Libertarian for Congressional Race
/Edward A (Andy) Maidment has filed as a Libertarian to run for Congress in Missouri's 6th District, comprising most of the state north of the Missouri River. Maidment is a father, Army veteran, and Information Security professional.
Maidment was asked to run for office by members of the Missouri Libertarian Party. He chose to run for Congress because he feels that Sam Graves' 22 years in office is long enough for one person.
Maidment listed 4 key points on his website for voters to consider:
1) Limited Government - Reducing the Government's role and eliminating regulations; ending the BATF and other agencies ability to rewrite established law
2) Keep your money - Eliminating the Income Tax and make real cuts to spending
3) Peace and Prosperity - Stop wasteful wars and nation building around the world
4) Accountability - Eliminate unnecessary programs so that Congress can actually perform oversight
Maidment first moved to Missouri when he was thirteen years old and graduated from Park Hill High School in Kansas City, MO in May 1999. He enlisted in the Army later that year and served four years. He attended and graduated from Missouri State University in Springfield, MO in the fall of 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and a minor in Economics. His son, James, was born the following year.
Maidment continued serving in the Missouri National Guard for 17 years, commissioning as a Signal Officer in 2011, and retiring as a Captain in 2020. He is currently an Information Security Analyst living in Kearney, MO with his son, girlfriend Sonya, and her children.
