Bicentennial Commission to Open Time Capsule

The Clay County Bicentennial Commission is hosting its family-friendly celebration on Saturday, June 4, to unveil the 1972 time capsule contents.  The event starts at 2 pm on the Courthouse Square in Liberty and is part of Clay County’s year-long bicentennial celebration.

The celebration will feature many family-friendly activities such as live music by the Clay County Museum Bluegrass Band, free family fun and games, build a time capsule, photo GIF opportunities, StoneLion Puppet Theater, face painting, frozen treats, and demonstrations and experiences.

At 3 pm Bicentennial Commission officials will gather around the courthouse area for the official ceremony and to witness the time capsule unveiling.

”We have the opportunity to unveil a time capsule that was buried around the Liberty town square for the sesquicentennial,” said Commission Chair Katie Steele Danner. “We’ll bring up the time capsule and find out what’s in it, and then what are we going to put in the time capsule when we rebury it for future generations.”

This Bicentennial Celebration event takes place from 2 – 5 pm on June 4 at the Courthouse Square in Liberty and is free to the public.
