Investigation Concludes Bus Driver was Distracted Before Crash

Clay County Sheriff’s Office investigators concluded that a bus driver’s inattention was the cause of a rollover crash last week. The accident sent the driver and two students to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Unit determined that the driver, Alissa Batliner, 40, was momentarily distracted right before the crash. The distraction caused the bus to drive off the roadway. When Batliner overcorrected, the bus turned over on its side blocking Mt. Olivet Road.

Batliner was issued a traffic ticket for careless and imprudent driving.

The bus had 30 Horizon Elementary school children on board during the crash. Two of the children were taken to an area hospital for minor injuries and released to their parents that day.
