Girls Take District Cross Country Championship

The Kearney High School Girls Cross Country team earned first place against 18 teams at the District meet on Saturday, Oct. 28 at Staley High School. The Bulldog boys earned sixth place out of 17 schools.

The girls were going for their third straight District title. The girls put six runners in front of Platte County’s third finisher. They won the meet by 14 points, with 39 points for their first five runners.

All seven Bulldog girls earned All-District honors:

Heidi Adams 6th in 20:20

Alex Kinstler 8th in 21:23

Daisy Burnam 9th in 21:27

Jordin Vaughn 10th in 21:35

Liela Murphy 11th in 21:40

Olivia Brock 12th in 21:46

Delaney Thurston 22nd in 22:34

The Bulldog boys also had an outstanding day at the District meet, very nearly qualifying as a team for state. The following Bulldogs earned berths at the State meet:

Isaac Smith was 13th in 17:16

‘Rylee Johnson was 23rd in 17:53

Bradly Barton was 29th in 18:04

Carter Smith was 30th in 18:05

Max Morehouse was 31st in 18:10

Seth Thomas was 40th in 19:10

Cameron Daniel was 43rd in 19:36

“It was a great day for Kearney Cross Country,” Head Coach Jeff Roberts said. “I’m so impressed by their growth both individually and a team this season, and I’m excited to see what they accomplish at the state level.”

The Bulldogs will compete at the State Championship on Saturday, Nov. 4 in Columbia.
