A Cameron man was struck by an unknown vehicle while he was walking along I-35 shortly after 10 pm on Thursday, March 16.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports states Gioacchino Aiello, 43, of Cameron was injured by an unknown vehicle while he was walking along the interstate at mile marker 21.1, just south of Kearney. Aiello suffered serious injuries and transported to Liberty Hospital.

A witness reported that she saw Aiello walking on the shoulder near the median when he decided to cross the interstate. The driver had to swerve to avoid hitting him, and called 911. Dispatchers told her they had received other calls about Aiello and sent officers to investigate.

The Highway Patrol does not have a description of the vehicle or driver that hit Aiello.
