Second Smithville Lake Drowning This Month

A man from Parkville drown near Little Platte Park at Smithville Lake on Sunday, July 23. He was 32 years old.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Yusupov Bektemir was swimming without a life jacket. At about 8:20 pm, he went under water and did not resurface.

This is the second drowning in this area this month. Carlos Antonio was also swimming at Little Platte Park without a life jacket when he drown over the Fourth of July holiday.
