Bulldog Sports Recap

Winter sports are in full swing and the Bulldogs are playing hard this season. Here is you KPGZ Bulldog sports recap:

Boys Basketball

Cameron Webster scored 15 on the night against Grain Valley

On Friday, January 19, the Varsity Boys Basketball team played Grain Valley at home. The Bulldogs had a great start jumping out to a quick 13-0 lead. Grain Valley was able to respond with a 11-0 run right back and ended up taking a small lead into halftime 28-26. The Bulldogs struggled to score in the third quarter and got down by as many as 15 points. In the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs fought their way back hitting back-to-back 3's and added a fast break dunk to cut Grain Valley's lead to 5. The Bulldogs found themselves down 52-55 and tried to regain the lead but fell short. The Bulldogs lost the game 66-57.

Aden Sallee finished with 16 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Cameron Webster scored 15 points and had 4 assists. Davin Hanna finished with 13 points.

Girls Basketball

The Varsity Girls Basketball Team lost to Grain Valley at home on Friday, January 19, 56-27. Brooke Paalhar was the leading scorer with 8 points. Jocelyn Lincoln led the Bulldogs with 6 rebounds. Addie Taylor and Kayla Resler had 2 assists apiece. JoJo Kutch led the team with 3 steals.

The loss brings the Varsity's record to 3-10. 

Boys Wrestling

The Boys Varsity traveled to the 53rd Annual Winnetonka Invitational this past Friday and Saturday, January 19 and 20. The Winnetonka Invitational is traditionally one of the toughest tournaments in the KC area. The Bulldogs were the only Class 3 team there other than the host Winnetonka and finished in 5th place out of 24 teams. All starters won matches and contributed to the team finish. Congrats to the following individual medalists:

106 Phoenix Shelton 7th place

120 Ryder Shelton 2nd place

126 Caden Underwood 8th place

132 Blaine Turpin 7th place

175 Carter Temple 2nd place

190 Jak Gist Champion

The Bulldogs head back to Winnetonka on Wednesday for a conference dual and travel this Friday and Saturday to St. Louis for another tough weekend of competition at The Kyle Thrasher Invitational.

Girls Wrestling

On Friday, January 19, the Girls traveled to Clinton. It was a great night all around, as everyone contributed to a second-place team finish behind Class 2, #1 Ranked Nixa.

105 Bailey Martin - 2nd Place

110 Riley Walker - 1st Place

125 Savannah McDowell - 1st Place. Savannah wrestled lights out. She dominated from start to finish in her final match over a returning medalist and state-ranked opponent.

145 Gracie Danner - 3rd Place. Gracie turned in one of her best performances of the year. 

155 Emma Schaetz - 4th

170 Carli Vargas - 1st Place. Carli knocked off two tough opponents on the way to her championship finish. In the finals, she easily defeated Arkansas's #2 ranked girl by fall. She is now 30-3 on the season as a freshman.

235 Brooklyn Westerfield - 1st Place. Brooklyn is doing her best wrestling at the right time of the season. She is gaining momentum and improving with every match as we push towards districts.

The Girls are back in action Wednesday at Winnetonka. Wrestling begins at 5:00 PM.
