Police K9 Retires from Kearney

K-9 officer Joran was recognized by Mayor Randy Pogue and the Board of Aldermen at the January 16 city meeting.

“For those of you who have not had a chance to meet Joran, there will never be another K9 ever like Joran,” said Mayor Pogue.

Joran has been with the Kearney Police Department for over four years and has made hundreds of narcotics discoveries and has tracked and caught over 30 suspects.

“He was our first apprehension dog. You would never know he was an apprehension dog if you didn’t know that. Very well-mannered and very well respected throughout the state,” said Pogue.

His handler, Officer Parton, thought Joran should retire after a recent back surgery. Parton was thankful for the recognition at the meeting: “I just appreciate the opportunity to be in a career with him and serve Kearney.”
