Kansas City Royals Select New Stadium Location

The Kansas City Royals have made a final decision for their vision of a new ballpark. Although the North Kansas City location was in the top two locations, it was quietly dropped last month for one of two Jackson County locations.

The Royals made the announcement on Tuesday, February 13 that they will develop their future baseball experience in the Crossroads District in Downtown Kansas City, MO.

“Whether it be catching a concert at T-Mobile Center, cheering on another great KC team at KC LIVE! or enjoying a delicious meal at one of the many renowned restaurants in the Crossroads area, we recognize this neighborhood is a crown jewel of our beloved city,” states the announcement on KCBallparkDistrict.com.

The new stadium project includes the ballpark, hotel, team offices as well as residential and entertainment areas. The ballpark will be just a few blocks from the T-Mobile Center and Power & Light District.

The Royals organization says they will contribute $1 billion to building of the area. The total price of the project is expected to be $2 billion.

One thing that fans question is traffic. Several posts on social media channels point out that traffic in downtown Kansas City is already terrible and there are very few parking accommodations. Royals officials have said that no new parking is planned because “more than 40,000 spots are available downtown.”

The Royals intend to move forward with the project if taxpayers approve the measure in the April 2 election.
