One Dead, Several Wounded at Chiefs Rally
/UPDATE – 1:00 pm, February 15, 2024
Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves gave an update in the investigation of the shooting that happened after the Chiefs rally on February 14 at Union Station.
The shooting left 22 people wounded and one dead. The one person who died was KKFI Radio’s DJ Lisa Lopez, who hosted a show called Taste of Tejano.
Graves said that three people have been taken into custody in connection with shooting, two of them are juveniles. Graves also said this incident was not an act of terrorism or part of a political statement.
“Preliminary investigative findings have shown there is no nexus to terrorism or home-grown violent extremism,” Graves stated in a news conference. “This appeared to be a dispute between several people that ended in gunfire.”
Kansas City Police will continue the investigation throughout this afternoon, questioning the individuals who were taken into custody. In Missouri, authorities have 24 hours to charge individuals suspected of a crime before they must be released from custody.
Kansas City Police investigators are working to present the most complete case possible to the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office.
