Steward Earns Olympic Tryout

Kearney High School Boys Swimming team member Whitaker Steward earned a unique opportunity to tryout in the mile for the U.S. Olympic team this summer.

Steward earned the tryout during a qualifying meet on Thursday, March 14, at the University of Missouri Spring Sectionals, where he also broke his own meet record!

He is the first Kearney High School swimmer to qualify while still at the school. His qualifying time was in the top 50 in the world this year and was a top-three finish in the nation among 15/16-year-olds.

Steward will swim on June 22 at the national Olympic trials in Indianapolis.
