Kearney Honors Chief Carey with Concert Celebration

The 2022 Kearney Amphitheater season continues this Saturday with a special tribute to retired police chief Tom Carey at Jesse James Park. The event will feature a tribute to Chief Carey as well as music by Dennis Laffoon and Carl Worden.

Carey retired from the Kearney Police Department on January 10, after nearly 37 years as Chief of Police. To honor Carey, the City of Kearney is hosting a free concert featuring music that he loves – the music of Jerry Lee Lewis.

Kansas City’s piano wild man, Dennis Laffoon of recording artists Shooting Star will headline the concert with his recreation of the original wild man of Rock and Roll, Jerry Lee Lewis. Concert goers will hear all of the 1950s hits from “Whole Lotta Shakin’ Goin’ On”, “Great Balls of Fire”, “Breathless”, “High School Confidential” and many more all expertly played in Laffoon’s signature style.

Opening the show for Laffoon is singer/songwriter Carl Worden. Worden is now back to his roots as a songwriter and overall entertainer after years of touring the country starting in the mid-late 80’s as a vocalist, multi-instrumentalist.

Worden has opened shows for current artists such as Tyler Rich, Dylan Scott, David Nail, Eric Church, Justin Moore, Josh Turner, as well as long time favorites, Little Texas, Keith Anderson, Gary Allan, Dwight Yoakam, Steve Earle, John Fogerty, The Marshall Tucker Band and many more.

Amphitheater gates open at 6 pm on Saturday, June 11, and the show starts at 7 pm. This concert is free to the public.
