Election Filing Window Opens
/The filing window for candidates opened on December 7, which will kick off local campaigns for the April election. A change in Missouri law has shortened the filing window for local elections by two weeks this year. Filing for all elections will close on December 28 at 5 pm. Here are the open seats up for election this spring:
Kearney Ward 1 and Ward 2 Alderman
The Kearney Board of Aldermen has two seats up for election on the April ballot.
The Kearney Alderman positions serve a term of two years. Aldermen must be at least eighteen (18) years of age, a citizen of the United States, an inhabitant and resident of the City for one (1) year preceding his/her election, and a resident, at the time he/she files and during the time he/she serves, of the ward from which he/she is elected.
Candidates can file for office on weekdays at Kearney City Hall, 100 E. Washington St. More information and forms can be found at kearneymo.us/government/municipal_elections.php.
Kearney School District Board of Education
The Kearney School District School Board will have two seats open this spring.
School Board positions are elected for a three year term. Candidates may file their paperwork at the District Administration building at 150 W. Missouri Highway 92. Candidates should also note that district offices will be closed for the holiday break from 1 pm on December 17 to 8 am December 28. Call 628-4116 for more information and procedures.
City of Holt Alderman and Fire Protection District Board
The city of Holt has two seats for Alderman up for election as well as the office of Mayor. Candidates must be 18 or older, a city resident for at least a year before filing, a U.S. citizen and registered voter in Clay or Clinton counties and not in any tax arrears. All seats carry a two-year term. Candidates can file between 9 am and 3 pm weekdays at Holt City Hall, 315 Main St. Call 320-3391 for more information and procedures.
The Holt Community Fire Protection District will have a seat open on the Fire Board. This is a six year term. Candidates can file for this position from 8 am – 5 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at the district station, 260 N. Missouri Highway 33 in Holt. Call 320-3612 for more information and procedures.
Election Day is April 5, 2022.
