Fleeing Felon Stopped by Dump Truck Driver

Clay County Deputies were assisted by a dump truck driver as they were pursuing a fleeing vehicle on Sunday, June 10.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop on a truck that was missing a license plate late Sunday morning. The license plate that was on the truck was registered to another vehicle. The driver pulled off 210 Highway at N. Norfleet as if he was going to stop, but then drove off at a high rate of speed.

As the deputies pursued the vehicle, another deputy was at N. Randolph Road and deployed Stop Sticks on the road. The truck ran over the sticks but continued to flee. As the suspect drove closer to I-435, he came up on a dump truck. He tried to go around the dump truck, but ended up colliding into the rear end of it.

The driver of the dump truck told deputies that he positioned his truck purposely to stop the fleeing suspect. Deputies were able to arrest the suspect and took him to the Clay County Detention Center after he was treated at a local hospital for a cut on his head. The dump truck driver was not injured in the crash.

Clay County Deputies report that the suspect is on probation and has multiple felony warrants from multiple jurisdictions for his arrest. Deputies also found methamphetamine in his vehicle. The suspect is being held on a $75,000 bond for fleeing from law enforcement and possession of a controlled substance.
