Man Shot at Clinton County Lake

An armed disturbance at Spring Lake Beach in Clinton County left one man dead and another in custody on Saturday, June 24.

The Clinton County Sheriff's Office said they were called to Spring Lake Beach on SE Mohawk Drive in Lathrop at about 9:25 pm, regarding a report of an armed disturbance. Deputies, Lathrop and Plattsburg police officers, and Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers arrived at the scene and found the victim, Randy Turner, 44, of Lathrop. Turner was shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials said they arrived at the beach with information that the suspect was still at large. A press release by Sheriff Larry Fish states that the suspect was quickly located and arrested.

“The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Ammon Preston of Avondale, MO and is being held on multiple felony warrants from Kansas while the investigation is being completed.”

Sheriff Fish did not explain the events that led up to the shooting, but Clinton County detectives and the Missouri State Highway Patrol Drug and Crime Division are investigating.
